Jeffrey A. Kolender is a member of the firm's Estate Planning and Estate/Trust Administration practice groups. He concentrates primarily in those areas and also advises small businesses in tax business planning.

A former chairman of the Estates and Trusts Section of the Montgomery County Bar Association, Mr. Kolender has participated as lecturer and co-author of outlines for several continuing legal education seminars regarding estate planning. His topics have included "Advising Clients About Transfers to Children and Grandchildren–Tax and Practical Considerations," "Basic Estate Planning for the Small to Mid-Sized Estate," "Estate Planning for the Wealthy Client" and "Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts-Traps for the Unwary." He is also a member of the Planned Giving Committee of the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington and the Board of Governors of B'nai B'rith Congregation.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Kolender was a tax law specialist at the Bureau of National Affairs, where, among other things, he was the technical editor of the Tax Management Estate Gifts and Trusts Journal. He also assisted in the writing, editing and publication of Tax Management's analysis of the many legislative changes in the tax area, most notably those brought about by the Tax Reform Act of 1986. More recently, he was a co-editor of the Wills, Trusts and Estates Section, Annual Review of Maryland Case Law and has co-authored several articles of interest in the tax and estate planning area.

Mr. Kolender received his B.A. degree from Emory University, his J.D. from the University of South Carolina and his LL.M. in taxation from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia bars, the Taxation and Estates Sections of the D.C. Bar and a member of the American Bar Association.
