Mark S. Rothman is a founding member of the firm who belongs to the
Estate Planning,
Business/Commercial Transactions,
Tax,
Estate/Trust Administration practice groups. He practices primarily tax and business law and estate planning, and represents large real estate holding companies and large retail operating companies. He has extensive experience structuring proposed business ventures, such as limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships and Subchapter-S corporations and also represents clients in conjunction with the sale and acquisition of a business. In addition to his business-related practice, Mr. Rothman handles sophisticated and complex estate and succession planning matters, particularly as relates to family-owned businesses, and has been published on numerous occasions in the tax journal, Estate Planning.
A frequent lecturer on corporate tax planning and estate planning, Mr. Rothman has chaired and spoken as part of numerous programs for the Montgomery-Prince George's Continuing Legal Education Institute and the Maryland Institute for the Continuing Professional Education of Lawyers. He has been active in bar activities, having served as Treasurer of the Montgomery County Bar Association. He is also involved in various community and civic organizations, having volunteered for many years as a member of the Board of Trustees of Suburban Hospital and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Suburban Hospital Foundation.
Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Rothman served for five years as a trial attorney with the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. A native of Syracuse, N.Y., he received his B.S. and LL.B. from Syracuse University and earned an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law. He is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars.
