Patricia M. Weaver is Chair of the firm's Appellate Practice group and, over the past 15 years, has handled numerous appeals, authored briefs and argued before the Maryland Court of Appeals, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Since the Court of Appeals is the state's highest court, it is fair to say that she has advanced cases and policy arguments that have shaped the law of Maryland.

Immediately after graduating from law school, Ms. Weaver clerked for the Honorable Howard S. Chasanow on the Maryland Court of Appeals and learned first-hand the requisites for success on appeal. The unique insights gained through working at the Court of Appeals, as well as years of subsequent appellate advocacy experience, provided the foundation for her track record of success. She has written articles on appellate practice, the most recent of which were published in The Legal Times and the Montgomery County Women's Bar Association (MCWBA) newsletter. She has also been a speaker at continuing legal education (CLE) programs designed to educate other attorneys about appellate advocacy.

Ms. Weaver is also a member of the firm's Litigation, Family Law, Employment Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practice groups. In her trial practice, she handles a variety of cases spanning the civil spectrum, but concentrates on complex commercial litigation. She has represented clients in many contract and real estate development disputes, sophisticated estate litigation matters and a number of employment/business competition cases. In addition to her numerous appearances in state and federal trial courts, she has represented physicians and psychologists before disciplinary boards.

In conjunction with her ADR practice, Ms. Weaver serves as a mediator by court appointment and by private engagement. She has published articles on the advantages of a mediated resolution in business and all other variety of disputes; the most recent appeared in the 2006 "Legal Review" published in Montgomery County's Gazette of Politics and Business.

Ms. Weaver has served as the president of the MCWBA and also was a member of the Executive Committee. She received the MCBA's Chair of the Year Award for heading its Fee Dispute Committee and has also chaired the Interprofessionalism Committee and is a former member of the Judicial Selections Committee. She is currently Chair of the Social Committee, a member of the Maryland Ethics Committee and is on the Faculty of the Professionalism Course, which is taught to all new attorneys practicing law in Maryland.

After graduating magna cum laude as an undergraduate, Ms. Weaver graduated in the top 10% of her class at the University of Maryland School of Law, where she was also an editor of the Maryland Law Review and earned the American Jurisprudence Award in Pre-Trial Civil Litigation. She is a member of the bars of Maryland, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, the District of Columbia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
