Arthur Blitz has been characterized by his clients as personable, easy to understand and down to earth. Those qualities are among the reasons they enjoy working with him and help explain why so many of his clients stay with him for generations. It is not unusual for folks to refer their children and grandchildren to Mr. Blitz, choosing to keep the family’s personal and professional affairs with an attorney they know and trust.
Mr. Blitz is known as a jack of all trades with regard to the scope and success of his practice. He chairs the firm’s Real Estate and Financial Services practice groups, and is a member of the Litigation and Business/Commercial Transactions groups. He concentrates on commercial law and handles a considerable amount of commercial real estate transactions, having represented local financial institutions in a myriad of such matters. Mr. Blitz has served for almost 15 years on the Board of Directors of EagleBank, one of the area’s largest and most successful community banks.
In addition to the time and attention he devotes as the father of a special needs child, Mr. Blitz has for many years been actively involved in community projects and charitable work. He does pro bono work for disabled or handicapped local residents, and has volunteered as president of the Parents Staff Association of the Stephen Knolls School, which serves special needs children in Wheaton, Maryland.
Mr. Blitz is a past president of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce and continues to be involved as a chamber member. He has served multiple terms on the Board of Governors of Woodmont Country Club, is currently the co-chair of the club’s Legal Committee—a position he has held for more than 15 years—and still functions as Woodmont’s informal general counsel. Mr. Blitz is also active in the Potomac-Bethesda Rotary Club, having held many management positions—including president, secretary and treasurer—over the past 30 years.
A native of Atlantic City, N.J., Mr. Blitz first displayed his leadership qualities as a youngster by joining the Boy Scouts of America and earning the honor of Eagle Scout. He later traded in his bow & arrow for books, receiving a B.A. with distinction from the University of Virginia, and his LL.B. from George Washington University, where he served on the editorial staff of the Law Review. Upon graduation from law school, he was the sole recipient of the Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation Award for Excellence in the Field of Real Property. He then served four years on active duty in the U.S. Army as a member of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, during which time he was a professorial lecturer with the University of Maryland Overseas Educational Program (Korea). He received his LL.M. from George Washington University while completing his military service.
When he’s not practicing law or busy with charitable or community work, Mr. Blitz maintains a strong interest in both golf and trains. While his accomplishments on the links may not be legendary, his backyard garden railroad is a thing of beauty, and was featured in both Legal Times and Bethesda Magazine in recent years.
Mr. Blitz is an active member of the bars of Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia and New Jersey.
