Paul Marcotte, current Chair of the Maryland State Bar Taxation Section, was a panelist at the U.S. Taxpayers’ Foreign Accounts Symposium at the University of Baltimore on March 24th. Paul discussed practitioner perspectives on the roll out of FATCA and ongoing developments in the government’s continuing battle against hidden offshore accounts.
FATCA is major federal legislation passed in 2010 designed to combat offshore tax evasion by US taxpayers by imposing compliance obligations on foreign banks and other institutions that do business with US persons. Paul is Co-Chair of the firm’s Tax practice group, and a member of its Estate Planning, Estate & Trust Administration and Corporate groups, among others.
