Ryan Spiegel Named National Judge Advocate for Navy League of the United States

Ryan Spiegel, Principal

BETHESDA, MD (November 9, 2017) – The Navy League of the United States has named Ryan Spiegel as its new National Judge Advocate. Spiegel was appointed during a special meeting of the Steering Committee on Monday, November 6, 2017. His term will continue through the Navy League’s June 2018 annual convention in Portland, Oregon.

The National Judge Advocate serves as the General Counsel of the Navy League, advises the organization and the National President, and serves on the Executive and Steering Committees and the Board of Directors.

Spiegel is a principal at Paley Rothman, one of the capital region’s most respected law firms with 40 attorneys based in Bethesda, Md. He chairs the firm’s Government Contracts practice and is a member of its Litigation, Corporate, and Science & Technology practice groups. He has received a number of awards and recognitions for his legal work, including being named a Rising Star by both Law360 and Super Lawyers. Driven by a strong commitment to community service, Spiegel also serves as an elected City Council member in Gaithersburg, Md. and on the boards of directors of the Maryland Municipal League and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.

Alan Kaplan, Navy League National President stated, “We are excited to have Ryan as part of our Navy League leadership team and look forward to the positive contributions he will make to our organization. He is a great addition to our team and we are thrilled to welcome him as our new National Judge Advocate.”

“The values and mission of the Navy League are near and dear to my heart,” Spiegel stated. “As we prepare to commemorate Veterans Day, I recall my grandfather Robert Suchman who served valiantly as an AEM1 based on the USS Bonhomme Richard during WWII in the Pacific Theater and received a Purple Heart. It was always clear that his service to the Navy and to our nation meant a great deal to him. I’m honored to be welcomed into this organization and look forward to working with all of the honorable men and women of the Navy League to serve the organization and advance its mission.”

The Navy League of the United States, founded in 1902 with the support of President Theodore Roosevelt, is a nonprofit civilian, educational and advocacy organization that supports America’s sea services: the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and US-flag Merchant Marine. Through national and local programs, the Navy League of the United States provides a powerful voice to educate the public and Congress on the importance of our Sea Services to our nation’s defense, well-being and economic prosperity. The Navy League provides support to our Sea Services personnel and their families and youth programs, such as the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Junior ROTC and Young Marines, that expose young people to the values of our Sea Services.

The Navy League will welcome Spiegel at their fall board of directors meeting in Sterling, Va.
