Estate Planning
Our attorneys have earned a first-rate reputation throughout the Washington, D.C. metro area and beyond for providing sophisticated, personalized multi-faceted estate planning services to clients and their advisors. We help people plan their estates–both during their life and after their death–in a way that will minimize or eliminate estate and gift taxes and maximize benefits to beneficiaries.
It is incumbent upon us not only to carry out our clients’ wishes, but to consider all of the available options and determine which one or combination is likely to accomplish their goal(s) with the least amount of financial impact on the estate. Toward that end, the firm provides clients with the full spectrum of services which includes preparing wills, trusts (both inter vivos and testamentary), family limited partnerships, family limited liability companies, powers of attorney, advance medical directives and other documents relevant to each client’s individual situation and needs.
Because many of our attorneys have considerable experience in complementary areas of law–real estate, tax, retirement plan design, deferred compensation, family law, corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies among others–we are able to provide cutting-edge, comprehensive representation to clients. In addition to their very strong estate and gift tax background, our lawyers have worked extensively with wealth preservation, family and special needs, business succession, executive compensation, creditor protection, charitable planning and unique circumstances that so often exist in certain family or individual situations.
As part of the estate planning process, we also prepare premarital agreements when appropriate, and provide advice when a family member needs to enter an assisted living or nursing home or other long-term health care residential facility. Estate planning services to non-citizens, an area of law where some of the legal and tax considerations are considerably different from those involving U.S. citizens, is yet another component of our comprehensive scope of service.
An essential principle in the estate planning program is to involve the client in making informed decisions to assure that, to the maximum extent possible, the plan that’s developed addresses both current and projected circumstances. Perhaps the greatest single testament to our group’s success is the firm’s track record of representing individuals, families and businesses over several generations.
