“In family law, every case is unique to the individuals involved. I know a cookie-cutter approach will not work, so I take the time to understand the details of each of my clients’ cases.”
Geonard Butler II
Geonard F. Butler II is an Associate in the firm's Family Law department and a member of its Litigation practice group. He handles a myriad of family law matters, including divorce, separation, contested custody and access, child support, domestic violence, separation agreements, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, alimony, property distribution, and modification actions; he also handles an array of general civil litigation matters. His clients include a variety of individuals and couples, in a wide range of family structures.
Geonard works hard to candidly communicate with his clients to understand their family dynamics and to build rapport and trust. He goes into every case with a sensitive, but realistic approach with his clients, ensuring that his efforts exceed his client’s expectations. He prides himself on making himself available to discuss the specific issues and unique nuances of each case with each of his clients.
Prior to joining Paley Rothman, Geonard spent over six years as an Assistant State’s Attorney for the Office of the State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County, Maryland, where he prosecuted virtually every codified crime existing in the state, including but not limited to, Homicide, Armed Robberies, Home Invasion, Rape and other Sex Crimes, and various other violent crimes. Most notably, Geonard served in the office’s Domestic Violence Unit (now the Special Victims and Family Violence Unit) for over two years where he handled Domestic Assaults (both felony and misdemeanor), Domestic Sex Offenses, Violations of Protective Orders, and numerous other domestically related crimes. He has had hundreds of bench trials, and has over twenty jury trials under his belt. He was previously a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Barry G. Williams of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, Maryland.
