Classifying Workers: From Independent Contractors to Overtime Exemptions
Jessica Summers presented at myLawCLE on June 13, 2018.
The program, co-sponsored by the Federal Bar Association, focused on the importance of properly classifying workers.
A summary of the event from myLawCLE's website:
The misclassification of workers, whether as independent contractors or overtime exempt employees, can be one of the most costly and difficult to correct employment law missteps that an employer can make. This course will begin by examining the risks and rules involved in classifying a worker as an independent contract. We will then turn to the classification of employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), including a discussion of the current status of the overtime rules.
Key topics discussed were:
- Independent Contractor v. Employee Classifications
- FLSA Overtime Exemptions
