Avoid youthful indiscretions with summer employees
Tourists aren't the only reason the Metro seems so crowded in the summer. The number of teenagers in the work force swells, filling internships, fast-food jobs and public transit.
Many of those young people have little or no work experience and present unique challenges for employers. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Department of Labor have launched youth initiatives to educate younger workers about their rights and employer responsibilities.
The EEOC's Youth @ Work initiative (www.youth.eeoc.gov) is an education and outreach campaign to promote equal employment opportunity for America's next generation of workers. The Labor Department's site, YouthRules! (www.youthrules.dol.gov), is for educating younger workers and parents.
