Jessica Summers Provides Commentary for HREOnline Article on DOMA

Jessica Summers, Associate

Jessica Summers provides significant commentary for Human Resource Executive article, “The DOMA Decision: One Year Later,” by Mark McGraw (July 21, 2014). The article discusses the changes since the DOMA decision and how many companies now offer benefits to same-sex couples.

“For employers and employees in states where same-sex marriage has not been recognized, the Windsor decision has ‘essentially opened up the issue of same-sex spousal benefits where it had not previously existed,’ adds Summers. ‘Thus, in order to ensure legal compliance, employers operating in these states need to ensure employees who may have been legally married in another state understand their rights.’”
