BETHESDA, MD (June 16, 2021) – Paley Rothman is pleased to announce that Ryan Spiegel has been elected a Shareholder of the firm and Hayes Edwards has been named a Principal.

“We proudly recognize Ryan and Hayes for their outstanding commitment and contributions,” said Paley Rothman Co-President James R. Hammerschmidt. “They are extraordinarily talented lawyers who exemplify the firm’s core values of teamwork, respect, and client service, and we are excited about their futures.”

Ryan Spiegel joined Paley Rothman as a Principal in 2013. He now chairs the firm’s Government Contracts practice, is Co-Chair of its Litigation practice, and is a member of the AppellateCorporate, and Science & Technology practice groups. His clients span a wide range of industries, and he is best known for his outstanding approach to clients, effective case strategy, and creative legal arguments. He currently serves as an elected City Council member in Gaithersburg, Maryland and is the Immediate Past President of the Maryland Municipal League.  Ryan has previously served as a member of the board of directors of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and  as the National Judge Advocate of The Navy League of the United States, providing advice and counsel and helping to further the League’s mission of supporting our nation’s sea services. He has won numerous recognitions and awards. Ryan received his law degree from Stanford Law School, where he was co-president of the Law & Policy Review. He received his bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Maryland.

Hayes Edwards joined Paley Rothman as an associate in 2019. He is a member of the firm’s Litigation and Employment Law practice groups, where he helps companies and individuals navigate their legal obstacles and maximize their opportunities. Businesses of all sizes and in countless different industries turn to Hayes to deliver value in resolving disputes over contracts, real estate, employment law, construction and many others areas of law. Hayes also has an active probate practice where he represents estates, administrators and heirs. His wide-ranging experience in state and federal cases, appeals, administrative hearings, arbitrations and mediation allows Hayes to understand disputes from multiple perspectives and adapt his style to fit the situation.

Hayes approaches every issue by considering the available resources to craft a successful strategy that prioritizes his client’s bottom line. He has received numerous recognitions. Prior to joining Paley Rothman, Hayes cut his teeth as a first-chair litigator at a boutique law firm in Potomac, Maryland. Hayes graduated magna cum laude from the George Mason University School of Law and earned his bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University.  Before that, Hayes graduated from Richard Montgomery High School’s International Baccalaureate program.
