Estate and Tax Planning in Uncertain Times

On Friday, October 18th, Michelle Chapin and Wayne Eig made a presentation at the Georgetown University Law Center to alumni groups on “Estate and Tax Planning in Uncertain Times.”

Michelle and Wayne talked about certain traditional planning strategies which have recently been rendered less effective and even counter-productive due to recent changes in laws. They provided an agenda of what to look for and what to avoid in reviewing planning. They stressed the need for flexibility in current estate plans, and will describe different approaches to achieving clients’ goals. They also provided a list of what they consider to be a “Hall of Shame” – that is, planning ideas which often create confusion, complexity and unnecessary taxes and costs – and they suggested means whereby membership in the Hall of Shame can be avoided.

Michelle Chapin is a member of the firm's Estate Planning, Estate & Trust Administration, Tax, and Corporate practice groups.

Wayne Eig is a member of the tirm's Estate & Trust Administration, Estate Planning, Tax, and Corporate practice groups.
