Family Law

The lawyers in this practice area represent individuals in a variety of domestic relations matters, including pre-marital agreements, divorce and separation, child custody, child support modification, family financial planning, enforcement of court orders and agreements, and guardianships. Our representation covers the full spectrum of family law issues, from the most complex cases to the relatively simple uncontested matters. We routinely are involved in cases that require the valuation and division of business interests, real estate, stock options and other types of assets. Members of this practice group work closely with accountants, valuation experts and financial planners to ensure that our clients’ overall needs are met.

Our attorneys frequently lecture on emerging family law topics, and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to our clients. Glenn CooperHoward Soypher, and Carlos Lastra have been selected by Bethesda Magazine and Washingtonian as being among the metro area’s best attorneys while also earning annual recognition as Maryland “Super Lawyers. Bibi Berry has likewise been honored as a “Super Lawyer—Rising Star” and received Honorable Mention recognition in the 2011 Washingtonian rankings.

In view of the increasing complexity of family law matters, our clients benefit from the breadth of experience represented by the firm’s attorneys in related practice areas. A family law case may have overlapping issues concerning real estate, businesses, pensions, bankruptcy or other tax and estate planning matters. Our family law attorneys routinely consult with their fellow practitioners to ensure that our clients receive quality and experienced representation in all facets of their case.

As a critical complement to their legal skills and knowledge of the law, our attorneys understand the personal nature of each family law case and the substantial and sometimes difficult changes that take place in the lives of our clients and their families. As we work to obtain the best possible results for those we represent, we remain sensitive to the needs of all family members involved.

We also prosecute or defend our family law clients’ rights on appeal. Our attorneys have established an impressive track record of success in protecting our clients’ interests through the appellate process. (see Appellate Practice Group.)
