The firm’s Employment Law practice group conducted a two-part Webinar in December on “What Employers Need to Know About Independent Contractors.”
The first session discussed the pitfalls and minefields of classifying a worker as an independent contractor, what to watch out for when determining employment classifications, and how to deal with issues related to workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance, wage and hours, benefits and audits. The second session focused on best practices to protect your business when choosing to use independent contractors and included a look at the business and type of position that needs to be filled, how to determine when it is appropriate to use an independent contractor and methods & requirements for drafting enforceable independent contractor agreements.
